From the intersection of Hwy 49 and Bear Valley Rd, drive about 8.9 mi northerly on Hwy 40 to a dirt track and wider shoulder on the west side of the highway, at a curve in the road indicated by a right arrow on a yellow road sign.  It is 0.8 mi south on Hwy 49 from the north roadway for Schilling Rd, a one-lane rural road, and 0.6 mi south of the south access road for Schilling Rd.
PM 38.5 marker on west side of road. The mark is [to be set] 2.0 ft east of fenceline, about 100 ft west of CL of hwy, 30.5 ft northwest of a power pole (currently with an orange spray paint "19" and an arrow pointing north), and about 42 ft north of CL of dirt road.  The outcrop is about 10 ft long in the north-south direction, with the fenceline running in the middle of the outcrop. 3 ft higher than the highway.
